Now, when studying history it IS important to address the different backgrounds of people groups, because it has to do with their culture and histories.

Why are people so easily offended by specificity in history?

How condescending. Ugh. But my wife is wonderful.

Admittedly did not watch the clip, because it’s Maddow and her voice and character and…everything make me want to puke and I’ve just had a lovely day and don’t want to ruin it.

One would think that the President and (Democratic pundits) would look to the log in their own eye, before complaining about the speck in ours.

hi, i’m going to give my whole 2 cents about this stupid conversation/debate whatever the hell it is. lol

first of all, you said if bolin were white; what you said there was wrong. cosplaying is cosplaying and people can cosplay whoever the hell they please, they don’t have to be the ethnicity/nationaly, what have you.

second of all, she wasn’t whitewashing him; she was just being sarcastic because it was a rude comment in general and you’re obviously looking way too into this. i personally don’t think she was whitewashing him, she isn’t the type of person to do it intentionally. 

so you’re right that it’s wrong to whitewash characters just because of ignorance, but it’s fucked up to pick on someone when they didn’t intend it to come out that way.

also, you looked like a massive douche with all your “wikipedia knowledge” and how you looked up that picture of a chinese man with green eyes. oh no, you found a picture of a chinese person with green eyes! you trumped us all! pff.

please, if you’re going to jump on someone for the love of god think for two seconds if the comment was intentional or not; please don’t say that “well they were” because you don’t know if they were. especially in this case.

She posted a picture of a white man and said he would be perfect as Bolin, except for his haircolor. I pointed out that there was one other major difference: Bolin is not white. The conversation easily could have ended there. She could have said “yeah that too,” or she could have just not said anything.

But no. Lady-Korra felt the need to defend Bolin’s whitness. That, is where she crossed into whitewashing territory.

Wow, some people will find ANY way to turn something into being racist. Which, as far as I can tell Lady-Korra is NOT. She was not “whitewashing” the character.

Her comment was that the character, despite being from a show where the characters and culture are based on Chinese culture, does not look particularly Chinese…which he doesn’t.

I googled multiple pictures of Bolin and, other than clothing, he looks about 0% Chinese. She was correct in her assessment that the person she originally posted a picture of looked remarkably like the character and would be able to do a good cosplay of him.

Jesus, you took this far FAR to seriously.

So I just went on my third “date” with a fantastic girl.

I say “date” because we basically spent all day at her place, talking and watching TV shows that we both love and really fantastically funny comedic movies from the 90s.

I don’t use the word ‘fantastic’ lightly. I’m using it like the Doctor uses it. FANTASTIC!
